I created this whole animation with hand drawing, and I'm gosh darn proud of it too! It was composited useing After Effects and Premier. "Rachel"'s voice was done by a fourth year student, and there is also myself talking. At first I wanted to draw myself as a cartoon version of myself, but I later tossed that idea. I am so drawn to and inspired by Don Bluth's work (Secret of Nimh, Titan AE, American Tail, Land Before Time) that I just had to emulate his style of lip sync. (It was Land Before Time that first interested me in animation and created a life long obsession for me!) So to better exagerate the mouth like he does I used a character who represents me, "Paccula" a dragon (colored picture to be found at the top of every page on this site). As inspiration for the coffee shop location I visited "Our Time", a shop here in Vancouver. Before begining animating Rachel I acted out her part and had my boyfriend Kyle video tape it so I could watch it. I also watched All Dogs go to Heaven (Bluth) about a dozen times and made sketches.
